Tone Stockenström is an acclaimed Swedish-American photographer based in Evanston, Illinois. Known for her ability to reveal the humanity and dignity in every subject, Tone creates portraits that feel both powerful and deeply authentic. She is available for corporate headshots, editorial commissions, annual reports, special events, and family portrait sessions.

Tone’s work is rooted in connection. With a warm, charismatic presence and a deep sensitivity to people’s stories, she creates an environment where subjects feel genuinely comfortable and seen. Rather than forcing individuals into artificial poses or expectations, Tone’s approach allows people to show up as themselves—resulting in images that are honest, compelling, and alive with personality.

Her commitment to storytelling extends beyond commercial work. Tone believes photography can be a tool for empathy, visibility, and social change. Through her work in the community and with nonprofit organizations, she uses her lens to uplift voices, honor lived experience, and support causes that advance dignity and justice.

Tone holds a BA in Spanish and Latin American–Iberian Studies from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from Columbia College Chicago. She also holds a professional K–12 educator license in Spanish and Art. In addition to her photographic practice, she has taught as an adjunct faculty member at Columbia College and worked with students through the Picture Me program at the Museum of Contemporary Photography. She has led workshops at the Art Institute of Chicago, Hyde Park Art Center, and Chicago Public Schools, mentoring young artists and encouraging visual storytelling as a means of expression and empowerment.

A lifelong traveler and cultural explorer, Tone has visited more than 38 countries and lived abroad in Brazil, Spain, Turkey, and Bulgaria. She is a polyglot fluent in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish—an ability that allows her to connect across cultures and build trust quickly with a wide range of clients and communities.

Community engagement is central to Tone’s work and values. Each year she donates her time and photography to organizations serving vulnerable communities and important social causes. Recent recipients include the Chicago Abused Women’s Coalition, Community Animal Rescue, Justin Wynn Fund initiatives, and local schools and community organizations.

Through every portrait, collaboration, and community partnership, Tone strives to create images that not only document a moment—but honor the people within it.

“Being a professional photographer is more than a career for me—it’s a passion. I love meeting people from all walks of life and capturing genuine moments that tell their stories. My approach is simple: create a relaxed environment where people feel comfortable, allowing their natural joy and personality to shine through. I’m incredibly grateful to do what I love every day.”
